WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today issued its most recent Financial ReportPDF.

Earlier this year AGA, formerly known as the Association of Government Accountants, presented the IRS its first Certificate of Excellence in Accountability Reporting (CEAR) award. The IRS received this accolade for its FY 2022 Agency Financial Report. The award is the highest form of recognition in federal government financial management and performance accountability reporting.

The IRS also received a second CEAR award recognizing it as "Best in Class" for improved presentation of the Management's Discussion and Analysis section.

"The IRS is honored to be recognized for demonstrating the highest standards in financial and performance accountability reporting. It is a significant accomplishment that showcases our reporting excellence in the financial management community," said IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel.

This year's reportPDF presents the IRS' current financial position and discusses key financial topics. It highlights the programs, accomplishments, challenges and management's accountability for the resources entrusted to the bureau.

During fiscal year 2023, the IRS received more than $4.7 trillion in tax revenue and distributed $659 billion in federal tax refunds and other outlays. The report is prepared in accordance with the requirements of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-136, Financial Reporting Requirements.
